CARACTERÍSTICAS
Se trata de una planta herbácea que posee un rizoma anaranjado brillante que mide de 10 a 15 cms. El tallo central presenta hojas largas lanceoladas de un color verde oscuro. Durante la época seca pierde sus hojas que luego vuelven a renacer al ingresar la estación lluviosa.
USOS
Muy apreciada como especia en la gastonomia asiática, Se utiliza también como colorante de ropa y en cosmética.
USOS MEDICINALES
Quizá su mayor valor radica en que se le considera una planta completa en el sentido de que sus propiedades medicinales alcanzan todos los sistemas del organismo. Ha sido considerada por la medicina ayurveda de la India una planta sagrada y se le trata con muchísimo respeto dado el poder curativo que tiene.

CHARACTERISTICS
It is a herbaceous plant that has a bright orange rhizome that measures 10 to 15 cm. The central stem has long lanceolate leaves of a dark green color. Turmeric looses its leaves during the dry season and later they are reborn when the rainy season begins again.
USAGE
Highly appreciated as a spice in Asian cuisine, it is also used as a dye for clothing and in cosmetics.
MEDICINAL USAGE
Perhaps its greatest value lies in the fact that it is considered a complete plant in the sense that its medicinal properties reach all the body systems. It has been considered a sacred plant by Ayurveda medicine in India and is treated with great respect given the healing power it has.
